Health & Safety

Take Care of Health & Safety the easy way
Today’s employers and workplaces, whether factory, office, shop, on the road, or wherever, are required to comply with a seemingly endless line of regulatory requirements.

All employers have to carry out suitable risk assessments to identify the hazards that their employees may be exposed to in the course of their work – this applies even if you employ just one person.

Where things can start to become more complex is when you identify hazards related to chemicals, manual handling, use of equipment and even display screen equipment (that’s VDUs in English!). Once these – and other specific hazards - are identified, you may then need to conduct a more detailed and subject specific risk assessment.

Not surprisingly, this can create problems for many organisations – lack of expertise in safety matters, not enough time or any number of reasons. That’s where we come in, we can carry out a site assessment and advise you on which risk assessments are required and then provide a tailored plan for completing the assessments. We can also supply the documentation needed – risk assessment record forms etc. We can even train members of your team in the process so that you have in-house capability when the assessments need to be reviewed or even repeated.

In short, we will plan a way forward with you that best suits your needs.

If you’ve cracked risk assessments already, you may need help with training people in the measures you have put in place to keep people as safe as possible. Again, we can provide general training courses or tailor the content to suit your particular requirements.

Despite your best efforts, accidents can still happen. We can help with investigating a single accident or analysing trends with a view to identifying corrective and preventative measures that aim to prevent recurrence. Apart from the pain and suffering, have you seen how much an accident can cost?

Once everything seems to be running smoothly, it’s unlikely to stay that way unless you detect where things may go wrong – or are going wrong - at an early stage. This is where an audit of the workplace can become a powerful tool. Not only can it reveal likely causes of accidents, as part of a concerted programme it can keep people focused on the safe way of working.

Most organisations with enviable safety records have something in common; they don’t see health and safety as a set of one-off or unconnected tasks. Instead, they view it as an essential business activity that, like running the financial accounts for instance, requires a systematic approach to managing it and keeping things in the black!
